Cebuanos finally got their first glimpse of piped water when the Buhisan Dam, the only one outside Manila, was first tested at the reservoir in Tisa, Labangon, on December 27, 1911. While the availability of potable water was still about two months away, it was poignant that the trial, which drenched many a Cebuano, came on Holy Innocents Day. For hundreds of children and infants had succumbed to another round of the cholera epidemic the previous year.

Magellan's Cross

is a large Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines in 1521. This cross is housed in a small chapel next to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño on Magallanes Street (Magallanes being the Spanish name of Magellan), just in front of the city hall of Cebu City

Dawn procession held Saturday, March 31 2012 Cebu City, as Cebu celebrates the feast of Blessed Pedro Calungsod.

The feast of Blessed Pedro Calungsod is celebrated every 2nd day of April, the anniversary of his martyrdom. If the date falls within Holy Week or Easter Week, the feast is observed on the Saturday that immediately precedes Passion/Palm Sunday. If April 2 falls on a Sunday of Lent or on a Sunday of Easter, the feast is celebrated on April 1. We do not celebrate the feast of Blessed Pedro in Holy Week or Easter Week, or on a Sunday of Lent or of Easter because on these days, we have a more important celebration – the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, otherwise known as the Paschal Mystery, which is at the heart of our Christian Faith. Instead, we celebrate the feast of Blessed Pedro on the Saturday before Passion/Palm Sunday because of its significance: Blessed Pedro was martyred on April 2, 1672 which was the Saturday before Passion/Palm Sunday of that year. In the case of April 2 falling on a Sunday of Lent or Easter, the nearest Saturday is April 1.
